CBD is AMAZING For Me, And It Can Be For You, Too!

Welcome to the Elwha Peaks Blog! Abby here, part of the Marketing Team for Elwha Peaks. I am going to bring you on a little journey I went on over the last few years. I have lived with chronic pain most of my life. I have several autoimmune diseases and have been in three major car accidents. I came up in my career in an industry that still tests for cannabis to this day in many organizations. Now I am here to say...

For many years, I just steered clear of any cannabis products, including CBD. I had a vague understanding of CBD but just ignored it since I wasn’t willing to risk my career over it. Wow - if I knew then what I know now, I would have advocated a lot more for myself and CBD use.

I now fully embrace and appreciate CBD and want to scream from the rooftops about how life-changing it has been for me. I recently had major surgery and a cancer diagnosis. CBD has been a game changer for my life, my pain level and my ability to wean off of opioid painkillers much earlier than I would have been able to without it. CBD is now part of my daily routine. I have come a long way from my days of not understanding how much it could help me. I am so thankful for that! Some of my personal favorite products we carry include:

Each of those products gives different levels of relief for different symptoms for me. FECO (Full Extract Cannabis Oil) capsules are great for long days that I have to travel for cancer appointments and treatment. Not only do they calm me, they make the long car rides to Seattle much more bearable. The milk chocolate edibles are great for at night time, when I want to relax before bed. The Topical Patch has been amazing for those super sore back and neck days where I need relief in a specific area. RSO is amazing overall. I take that when any of my symptoms are intense and I need faster relief. I like my RSO mixed in with peanut butter and just eat it straight up like that.

So, what is CBD? I am willing to bet many of you have a great understanding of CBD. CBD is Cannabidiol. It can be taken and used in many forms, from a tincture, pill form, edibles, vaping, balms and more.

You see right on our home page our love of CBD. We showcase Fairwinds CBD products front and center. There’s a reason for that. We believe in offering high-quality cannabis, CBD, and wellness products for YOU because we know just how amazing they are.

Let’s talk about how CBD works in our bodies.

Thanks to MarijuanaDoctors.com for this great explanation.

How Does CBD Work?

CBD is an antipsychotic and how it exactly works is unclear at this time. What is known is CBD seems to stop the breaking down in the brain of a chemical that affects mental function, mood and pain. It’s also thought CBD may effectively block out many of the psychoactive effects of THC, as well as curb anxiety and pain.

As CBD is non-psychoactive, it won’t get you stoned in the manner that THC does. In fact, due to the psychoactive effects of marijuana, CBD was overlooked for many years.

Again, research is the most important way we have of understanding CBD as it’s a very complicated compound. This is because it’s polypharmacological, meaning that it affects various aspects of your body at one time. It’s therefore crucial to know how these different changes interact, and this can only be discovered through clinical research.

CBD and Receptors

CBD activates receptors like serotonin, adenosine and vanilloid receptors, which have the following functions:

  • Serotonin receptors aid in controlling your mood.

  • Adenosine receptors aid in controlling your sleep-wake cycle.

  • Vanilloid receptors are responsible for mediating pain signals in your body.

Your body produces its own compounds that are similar to those found in cannabis. These are known as endocannabinoids, and CBD regulates these, too. It works by blocking the fatty acid called FAAH that’s responsible for breaking down your body’s natural endocannabinoid anandamide.

According to a report from the World Health Organization, "In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD."

So what does all of this mean, anyway? Essentially, when our bodies are in pain or we are in a state of anxiety or other indicated situations, CBD can be a very beneficial and quick way to get relief. We carry many CBD products.
